Hello, my name is Mike. I am 56 years old and work for the New York City Housing Authority. I am planning on retireing in a few years and would like to supplement my retirement income with driving a fuel oil truck. I am currently studing for my CDL and HAZMAT endorsement. I am a supervissor with the Fuel OIl Remediation/Heating Division. We have two #2 Fuel oil trucks, one diesel and one vaccum truck.
I have a question. We have large portable generators and diesel powered compressors that we support with diesel fuel. In an effort to reduce the amount of deliveries per week, we obtained portable 350 gal. diesel tanks to increase the fuel capacity at the locations. These tanks have wheels, trailer connections and motorized fuel pumps. They are designed to be towed from location to location. Would you happen to know what are the regulations/restrictions (placards, driver, qualifations, etc.) needed for transportation and if removing all the fuel before transport would eliminate or reduce the regulations or restrictions?
    Thank you

It is a purpose built unit not a tank on a trailer. Its a tank with wheels and a trailer tongue. Brand new.
    Thanks for a quick responce.

Welcome to the forums, Mike. You're getting good advice from critters, but something else that you can do is to go to the Regulations forum and post your question there:

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-industry-regulations/

There have been similar threads in there in the past and they usually generate a good discussion. Between the drivers and the enforcement officers that post in there, somebody will likely be able to tell you exactly what you need to know.
