So I should introduce the truck to you. 1979 KW 8v92 TA 13 sp. Eaton Fuller , the farmer had the truck built for him, never turned a legal mile according to him, told me to take a qt. of atf with me for the 200 mile ride home, just in case I had to talk to the fuzz. Ran red dye off road all it's life! Very clean one owner truck, spoke to the brother of the owner for hours he is a Detroit mechanics, and performed all the maintenance on the farm ( he and his brother also run tractor pulling sleds on with a 8v92 TT and a blown and turboed Sherman tank motor). Driving the tractor home I had no problem doing 70mph the posted speed limit, I noticed that in my highest split gear I would fall out of the power band quick unless on flat hiway, and noticed when I got close to 85 mph that I was no longer lugging, not saying it's a triple digit truck, but it seem to have plenty left for more speed. Oh yeah I forgot to mention it is an 8 bag rear and has air over leaf on the front, don't seem to ride bad for the age and configuration. Also has no mufflers and 10" straight stacks and a really free flowing breather that was updated.

So if the 8V is good why not run it? You can buy a lot of fuel for what you are talking about spending.
Cabover Mike and spsauerland Thank this. -
Run that thing just the way it is if it will run 70mph.
Trucks like that have hauled lots of freight and there’s no reason it can’t keep doing just that. If it’s got airbags all around it’s as good as any modern truck.Cabover Mike and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
Cabover Mike Thanks this.

I kind of liked them with a shorty. Put them in after the turbo. Don't remember the brand or part # but about 22 inches long. They were not KW's so I don't know how that will fit for you.
Cabover Mike Thanks this.
