JB power only program....he can go outside of 300 as long as its only within like 15% of the time (should have never opted for that the price difference is not that much now he is in a bind) Maybe try containers in that area....not to be a smart ### but you really should have a solid plan in place BEFORE you buy the truck (IMO)

 

Look at Butterball in Mt. Olive, they might be an option for you.

 

Is that what he is paying per mile on insurance? Or per load?

 

Poor planning in reality, and you'd say the same thing if it was some random poster on here. He should of bought a 20000 truck and a 10000 trailer. Then again, a 300 mile radius restriction is a poor business plan as well. Have him try Iloca, or if that doesn't work, suspend his authority and lease on to a carrier that has trailers.

 

What type of insurance did your Pops get? At 2.25-4 dollars a mile I would keep that kinda stuff under wraps for your dads sake. Tell him to buy a trailer any power unit program is a waste. At least on any long term basis. I know it's tough but really see what you guys can do to get your own trailer your half way there do the job right.

Maybe one of those prospective customers might be willing to do some kind of deal in trade if they bought the trailer and lease it back to him? Or maybe find a cheaper van to get started with and upgrade later? Over in the o/o finance threads there's a number of buy-here-pay-here trailer outfits listed. I'm sure Google will find them too. Of course none of those will be all that cheap or easy to deal with. Comes with the territory.

I wouldn't be so fast to knock JBH's deal. It is what it is - a program for truck owners with authority that either can't afford to buy or operate their own trailer or can't qualify for a regular lease-operator arrangement. Not being judgmental with that. It's not like running your own authority and customers, nor does JBH represent it any other way when they call. Everyone generally agrees you won't get rich doing it, but for the right person, it could be a bridge over troubled times.
