I have heard that the dd13 really doesn't have enough pulling power for any sort of significant grade with a heavy load.

Don't take my word for it, but do your own research. If a dd13 can be specced with enough horsepower and torque to handle 6 or 7 percent grades at 80k lbs, how many engine hours will that spec last?

I thought more about the original request. If you are running in a place where DEF is not needed, then I would be looking for an older W900 or 379/389 with a good engine or a few year old glider of those models and a setup that I can just run, and run and run.

Find a specd out 2000 W900 with a million mile motor before the rebuild. Buy that truck, get the engine rebuilt and man just go.

170E41A8-3B2D-4141-9AC9-9D338442CDA9.png This one caught my eye recently. Mainly because it’s priced right. Other pros are 550 Cat, and removable sleeper gives it future potential as a Local Truck. For resale purposes. Not sure if it’s removable though. Looks like it .

I don’t know how that’s not sold ASAP. Somethings might be wrong with it.

That is some good sleuthing and the type of truck you want to find. Obviously, do your homework, get it looked over and tested. At the end of the day, a "new" truck like that (389) runs you $185K. Figure you have $160K to play with in bringing it up to "spec"!!!!

It’s probably due for an inframe.

may that’s what I was thinking as well since a Acert inframe can run about 30k

Could well be. Still sitting at less than $60K for a non-def, CAT powered 379. Plus, if we go off of the $185K needed for a new comparable 389, we have $125K left in our pockets for other "issues".

If it’s really a super clean Truck, Clean frame and electrical, and it’s something you want and will keep a long time, it’s worth it. I think it’s a mistake to buy a Truck that’s not what you want. Having to spend money on it, and keep it longer than planned. Ends up costing more. If you keep it for years, it’s definitely going to pay off. Get a Truck you can stand to be in for a while. In the end it won’t matter what it’s sold for. You’ll already have made plenty of money with it. You can never count on resale. Markets for Trucks change fast.
