Been driving as local company driver for 10 years. Started otr career with a major carrier back in Feb 2012 and terminated for screwing up a tanker unload. I just started as an O/O on their lease/purchase plan back in Sept and now unemployed in Dec. I have an opportunity and can purchase the truck I was leasing. The question is "how long will/should it take to get hired on to another company. And is it harder right now because of the holiday season and first of the year coming up?

At my house whom is not a seasoned professional carrier by any definition it takes about 2 weeks for the driver and a week for the truck.........which I consider very slow.

Before making my deal with this guy I took a spot with a mid sized carrier so I didn't burn the retirement cash........took him a week to interview and check me out and another week in orientation.

Then he didn't trust me (he doesn't trust anybody ) so he wouldn't give me much to do............all in all pretty well took a month to draw a decent check from both.

IMO to answer your question, yes, harder. Office folks are bailing for the holidays etc. Still start the paperwork but expect slow responses. Likely be Jan. before you get a seat and the first is a Tue so that week is short too.

Hold your cards a lil higher on the screw up too. Learn from it but keep it quiet .

    Happy Holidays and good luck

It will take 2 or 3 weeks for sure as the holidays are in full swing. I recruit, so I know companies I represent are all rescheduling orientations.

I got three calls this last week from guys that where in the pipe for big companies that got approved and then told first orientation was in January.

Small companies like mine a little harder as we schedule based on having people looking to run.

Yea starting this time of year will be SLOW as so is the freight. The week between Christmas/New Years are alwayd dead, and it'l take a week or 2 after that for everyone to sober-up and get serious again. ;)

With the outfit I'm with, within a day after they recieve your application, they will know if they even want to talk to you. If they do, and ya satisfy their requirements, drug, experience, mvr, etc. they will get you to orientation for the following monday.

    Good luck!

edit; yer truck is gonna have to pass muster as well.
