I don't think of myself as an old timer until I start talking with someone that started back when I did. I saw one of those 40' trailers on an old movie. It sure brought back some memories. I bet most people on this forum don't remember when we had a lot of 18 wheelers that were gas burners. I remember a guy who used to haul produce out of California with a straight truck. It was a flatbed with sides. That bed must have been 40' long with 2 axles. He would haul out of Florida sometimes. That was before the interstates were completed. He always had a lot of turquoise jewelry. I think most people who ran the left coast back then wore a lot of turquoise, a big belt buckle, cowboy boots and western hat.
The first time I went to California I traveled most of the way on Route 66. I would love to be able to make that trip on 66 again. It was much more interesting than I-40. There are still a few remnants along the way.
