Don't encourage him, OM, however, welcome aboard. I've been here over 10 years, with a minor hiatus here and there, and I'd have killed for a site like this years ago. For us, it was trial and error, with dismal results sometimes.
As to your question, the problem with a site like this, is you will get 10 different answers from 10 people. Chinatown is our resident recruiter, and has a literal rolodex( that dates me) of jobs to be had. Thing is, remember the saying, you can never go home, and trucking has changed considerable and may not be the same job you remember. For me, after 35 years, at 12:01 am on my 62nd birthday, I was on the phone with SS, and never looked back. The only reason I'm here, is to see how low the industry can sink. It's ironic, trucking has never been easier, with electronics and all, but for me, it just wasn't the same job being "watched" all the time, it's why I started driving trucks in the 1st place, to get away from the boss. Trucking jobs are plentiful today, merely because nobody wants to do this, and substandard drivers are being hired to fill the seats, and will certainly be a hassle dealing with them. Some retired folks make it work, but soon find out, it's no vacation, and a more traditional job , even Walmart, pays about the same, and you see your neighbors and friends, have a "normal" life, trust me, it's a better life. Food, weather, traffic, will take it's toll, and God forbid you have a health emergency in Bugtussle, Ms. Good luck.

 

Most people love cruises. I have never been , I think it would be a feeling of being trapped. with one exception I have friends that love the Blues Cruises, and that sounds like fun.

 

Riverboat cruise down the Mississippi spend a couple days in the french quarter afterward.

 

Many years ago i was on a riverboat gambling , I was winning and just seeing how pit bosses were acting and talking to different unsavory looking characters. I got the feeling the whole riverboat was a shady operation, and did not take winners to kindly. Anyway , I tipped everyone well and walked. It was a learning experience.

 

Let me tell ya hoss , anywhere there is gambling its shady as hell , chisel that in fine Italian marble and hang it over the hearth.

 

Oh, I don't know about cruises. I can name half a dozen older folks I knew that went on a cruise, only to exit out the freight door.
