    Warranty isn't covering it?

What do you think your cost would've been if you had paid labor?

I looked at renting a shop after I posted earlier. $8400 a year for the shop. That would pay for a lot of labor & free up a lot of my spare time.

Ouch on the $6,400 for a turbo. If you have a CAT you can have the pleasure of changing one for about a third of that shop bill and that's if you DIY which can also be a tough pill to swallow lol. More reasonable turbo swaps would easily be under a grand. But $6,400!? That really stretches credibility of a legit shop bill from an honest shop....... even on a 2013 with all the whiz bang extra government mandated (yay!!) componentry.....

I would say I'm a hair over $6k in parts not including the trans swap as that is in my capital costs. It dose include my generator and stuff like oil changes, tires, truck wash supply's and trailer repairs as well. My guess is I would have another $5k or better in labor had I had it done at a local shop. On the road repairs, you could probly add another $2k in labor and parts on top of that.

Lost a belt and idle pully in iowa a few weeks ago under a load going away from the house. No one had the part for 2 days. I bought a battery charger at Napa, pluged it into my generator. Ordered the part from my parts guy delivered to the house. Finished the week and parts were there when I got home. Took me 25 min to fix.

Had I had to wait in a hotel in Iowa for a day and use what ever shop was close who knows what it would have cost or long it would take. Parts were $248 on my doorstep.

@rollin coal I think that includes the tow? It's a cummins ISX. Out of waranty by 50k miles. It is a branch of our local dealer. It's like a game with them. every time you take your truck there. Bill is way high. You complain and they lower the bill. Everybody is happy then. lol we get good pricing on parts over the counter and they do ok work in there shop but I won't put MY truck in there unless it is terminal.

My buissness plan is: I repair my own truck!

I will not pay someone else more per hour than I can net per hour using said truck or trailer.

Every dollar you give to someone ELSE in this buissness, you need to Gross $3 more for the privilege of giving them that $1.

Plus I know its done right even if "I" have to fix it twice. LOL

    Nice thread.

With the 10 speed FRO boxes vs. the 13/18 RTLO's, the drive lines won't bolt up if you try to swap one for the other right? Did you use the Fuller clutch and lubricant to get the 3 year warranty?

A used 13 speed will be much less.
For 10k.... you can get the install, trans, and clutch. I would rather have an Eaton 13 anyway. Even if you bought a 10 speed, it not 13k for the whole freaking transmission

    The whole truck was $13k

In my case I would have had to shorten the driveshaft. I have put 70k miles on it since I put the 10spd in. It has done all I have asked of it no problem. I don't go to the rookies though. If I bought a brand new truck I would order it with a 13spd but the 10 works for wat do.

does it make any sense to buy a truck with Cat 15 anymore? i ask as there is 2007 Freightliner Century up for sale near me for $21K (CAD). it is a 13 spd, has about 830K on it, but i suspect it has done more than that. it runs great, has new tires and had recent brakes work done, according to the seller.
