Just out of curiosity, how many miles on the truck, and what did it cost you?

Most want the new guys to team with a "experienced driver" < some company's have different opinions on what experienced means.

When I started I went on team for less than a month. Looking back on it I wish the company had made me Team for a couple more months at least.

I could drive the truck no problem there. But when you add doing border crossings, find your way in unfamiliar areas, fatigue, time constraints. Not to mention sending me in to places like Philly and Baltimore, weehawken.
    Then it happened!!!!!!!!!
One of the other trucks broke down and they turned me back from the Canadian side to bobtail down and rescue the load that was going to downtown Chicago.
Exhausted and over hours not to mention being right downtown Chi I got lost and ended up at a low bridge!!!
I didn't try to go under it but I panicked and didn't make sure everyone had cleared the trailer before pulling a U-turn.

Pulled the trailed over top of a elderly ladies car!
Thank god she was smart enough to lay down across her seat.
Or I probably would still be in jail!!

But three months in I was out of work and had to go and shunt trailers as no one would hire me. < And who could blame theme.

I'm on the Canadian side so can't really help out with a Carrier.

I wish this forum was around when I started, I might have had a smoother start.

    ibcalm19 and PacManTrap Thank this.

That's a nice truck! If it were me I would hold off on a trailer until I figured out exactly what type of trucking I wanted to do. You might need to drive a company truck for a few months to gain some experience and then lease on some where. I live in the Midwest and there's lots of o/o"s that haul grain just something else to consider.

    PacManTrap and Lepton1 Thank this.

Nice rig and good luck! Remember don't haul anything for cheap. Do you already have your llc/s-corp? I'd have at least 20k cash for breakdown before you roll (coming from a former o/o).

    PacManTrap Thanks this.

What was your motivation to spend that kind of money to buy yourself a job?

Thanks for the great advice driver I appreciate it. I've had my own business since January of 2014 but being as tho I wasn't transporting I made it a sole proprietor. I just put in my application to change it to an LLC last week. Also I have a 50k cash in my rainy day fund plus another 15k in my maitance fund. It'll be 30k in the rainy day fund after I buy this trailer.

Lepton1 and wore out Thank this.
