Apply for your EMPLOYER IDENTIFICATION NUMBER or EIN. click here to apply online. EIN Individual Request - Online Application If you receive error 101 at the end it means that you need to print out SS4 form and send it by fax or mail. Fax few days. Mail several weeks.
After you get your EIN...you must pay your 2290 heavy highway use tax. It is around 400$ and Your EIN needs to be two weeks old to show in the system.
Listen...Base plates and International Registration Plan cost money. They go for around 300 to 400$ a month and that is not counting the insurance which may run for around 400$ a WEEK. it all varies. these are ball park figures.
Flat bed require owning lots of additional equipment to your truck. like chains, ties and any other wrench. I am about to start doing UPS freight which pays 1.02$ plus fuel surcharge. It is not as bad as people say. I used to have a lease truck and average around that much and it was not the struggle that people say. Just keep your miles per gallon high and do not idle. Also, if you have fancy cars and live in a castle you may not be in the best financial position, so take precautions and open up a separate bank account one for an emergency fund of 10 cents per mile and around 18 percent of each gross paycheck for taxes. REMEMBER to tax yourself.
Also cummins ISX is a good engine. It does seem to generate excess carbon build up in the engine. Therefore, you need to know where the intake sensors and EGR are. Go to youtube and type in cummins you will see lots of people performing maintenance. You could do as well.
Go to the cummins website and register your engine with quick serve online. Cummins QuickServe Online You will need the engine reference number which is carved on a metal plate on the driver side of the engine almost to the bottom. See if cummins has any open campaigns on it which are sort of recalls that they might fix under warranty.
The possibility of coming up positive as for profitability will depend on your ability to perform tune ups and light mechanic. There are certain expenses you just cannot avoid.
Good Luck.
By the way...UPS or XPO will pay your base plate and IRP and will provide good rate on insurance because their fleets are humongous. Do not know about XPO, but with UPS you only have to pay for 2290 out of your own pocket. That is one of the reasons they pay 1.00 per mile + surcharge with no Load board.
Good luck!Last edited: Oct 23, 2017

- Form 2290 = $550/yr (but prorated for the remaining months till June 30th, next year.
- Base plates & IRP = state dependent (my state it's $1800/yr or $150/mo)
- Insurance = A LOT (depending on your MVR / cargo types / credit score) - mine is $350-ish/week or $1500/month with OWN MC - not leasing-on
crucar1800 Thanks this. -

Semination,
Please come back and post how you are doing after 3 to 6 months of running your truck. I am curious on how the Prostar with ISX performs. Fuel mileage and maintenance cost.
