It has nothing to do with the spelling, I just didn't read the whole sentence! The main reason I wasn't looking at SNI was because they told me they wear a uniform! And i just hate to conform! Always have. One of those kids that if you drew a line in the dirt and told me not to cross it, I'd walk over to it and lift one foot over it and just stand there! And at this point in the down hill slide, I know I'm not going to wear any kind of uiform for anyone. So, lucky for me, there are other choices for driving schools. Thanks for your input.

I ran reefers while training at Swift. There is a little extra work that goes into it; making sure it is set, looking for problems if they arise, monitoring temperature based on customer demands. The biggest thing was getting used to it running. Some of the old ones can be loud but most of the newer ones are much quieter and most say it only takes a matter of time and it becomes a "natural" sound to you. With Prime using the intellisets, they say it is easier to give the service the customer wants with the reefer. I hope to know soon.

    Hi guys,

I'm new at May - and as far as I am aware, all we have is Reefers. Myself, I barely noticed it even the first night.. and the reefer is loud compared to a couple others I've heard. There is a brand out there... model is somethign like "Whisper".. holy sneaker! I don't think you could hear it inside the cab - I was standing right next to it and thought it might be from about 10 trucks down the line. Nose to tail.

Mann - I talked to SNI a couple weeks ago. Sadly, they've done away with the skid pads. That's what the simulators are for. Still, from all accounts, probably the best carrier-sponsored training you can get.

You got on with May, their mid west aren't they. I thought I read they take experienced drivers, and they fire people if their not on top of it. I'm probably wrong. The outfit I'm thinking of is flatbed.

I'm glade you mentioned the WHISPER reefer. It supports my own run in. I was out talk'n to drivers. I ran into one of the "Whisper" reefers, I took a double take. The driver said it's on intella somthing. It's a ThermoKing. When I get into driving I WILL BE LOOKING AT COMPANIES that have "Whispers". I couldn't really believe it was so quite until you just verified what I heard. :yes2557:

One company said that Thermokings quite reefers, use a little more fuel, but they use Carriers because they use less fuel. Just wait tell some driver kills someone because they couldn't sleep do to reefer noise.:biggrin_2556:

i prefer TK reefers over carrier's as well, i also like the fact that their battery is on the same side as the truck's, i always seem to run my batt's. down on my old truck i would take the jumper cable to em' and 10 min. later she would start.

Nope - not the same one - May Trucking is based in Salem, OR - the tarminal that's farthest east is in Denver. Not that they don't GO east - my first two weeks I spent most of my time between Atlanta and Minneapolis. No flatbeds, though.

I wish I could remember more - it oh-my-god-30 in the morning, so brain hadn't switched on... I recall both tractor and trailer were red.. and my brain's trying to stick Miller somwhere in the name

As for the reefer noise - I dunno. It never bothered me at all - not from day one - when my trainer showed up to collect me hauling a load at minus 10

Seems most of them are fairly recent 378s - the one I've been in just turned over 120K miles.

They DO take recent graduates - they took me, after all

They do NOT have their own schools, and I don't know if they have approved schools or just any school will do. Orientation is 3 days (unpaid) then you spend time with a trainer. Time is not pre-determined. Could be 5 days, could be 5 weeks - depends on you.

I went in today to sort out some issues with my comdata card - and got conscripted to test for solo. Took one corner too fast (6th gear, broad corner for freeway onramp. nuke. Back on the road. <shrug>)

There's an orientation class finishing up today - so I will assume they are still hiring.

What did you do? Did you just call SNI and say, hay you guys still have those skid plates? :biggrin_25526:
It's good to know that the simulators cover skidding. Thanks.
