When I turned in my lease truck with Prime in Dec, I did my research before doing another lease with Prime. No one else I could find could give me the three things I wanted: all the miles I could handle; time to run them (log the speed limit); and good freight base. If you have all 3, and get good fuel mileage, the money is there. That is how I did 161,000 miles. I have only been driving 2 years and 2 months, and put $72,000 in the bank? Only at Prime (according to my research). Tell me another company that I can do better, and I will check it out. My loyalty is to my family.

Do they govern there lease trucks, what about the company trucks?

I'v been thinking of getting my father to sign on with prime. Do you know what they pay there co drivers? He's in a bad place right now after drivng dump truck fr a few years with little pay and n benifits. He needs to get a job with good medical and dental.
-
Our trucks are 71mph; 76 mph after you take a one day business class (if you want to turn it up). Can't answer the company driver or medical question, sorry. My medical is covered by TriCare (military retired). Prime dental is working pretty good though. But If you need dentures or a good dentist, you can visit my son and son-in-law in Oolaga Oklahoma (North of Tulsa on Hwy 69). They will be opening their own shop around September 2007, and will be looking for business.

I am new looking at schools and companies. "log the speed limit", What does this mean?
-
It means if the speed limit is 75 then your log book can reflect a 75mph average. SOme companies automaticly give you a violation if you log over 62mph or 68mph etc etc
-
Logging the speed limit is "playing with fire". "playing with fire" is something that Prime has been doing for many years.
If you do use the method of "logging the speed limit", make sure you are factoring in any and all reduced speed situations (weight stations, city limits, road construction, etc...). Also, factor in things like traffic, mountain passes, and other things that are going to make your truck magically fall off that steady speed.
This is why many companies restrict your logs to reflect a set speed limite as Medicine Man mentioned, because there is no way you can truly truck across the country and average the actual speed limit in them without speeding on occasion. -
Well I bobtail ALOT, probably 60% of the time. and I resent the dot telling me I can't log 75mph if the speed limit is such. That's my problem with it

My husband drove for Prime for 3 years, first as a company driver than owner op. The payments on the owner op were outragious for a week - over $720. From Xmas to April of 07 he barely made any money but was always running. On Valentines Day some "yarddog" ran into his truck TWICE. We're still fighting Prime. He was told one thing and it never happened. He quit them mid April and were getting bills from them still. The last one said he got fuel in May and owes over $500. Noone will talk to me. They put on his DAC report he abandoned truck. He then went to Continental Express Inc in Sidney, OH. They ran him to death for .46 cpm. He gave his week notice but they are now saying there was over $960 in damage. He wasn't in any wreck or anything. The truck was like that when he got it.
Anyone wanting to be a trucker should REALLY check out the company in advance.
