Dispatchers (and most Prime employees) are paid on some type of commission. It originates from Robert Low, the owner (and multi-millionaire) who believes in paying on performance. The dispatchers receive $ based on freight (not part of your 72%) and their pay can increase based on what you are booked on and how you run. Hence, if you make more, they make more. They are not forced dispatch, so you can run what you want, but of course they want to to run all that your logs can handle. You just have to learn to say no sometimes. Presently, I have bought my own truck (2007 Columbia from OKC Freightliner) @ 8% APR with $15,000 down and am running Prime freight and pulling their trailers and getting 72% and doing real well. My truck payments are $1500 a month so my wife is getting used to the $2500 a week in the bank
(not every week of course). Prime does not advertise the Owner/Operator (like I am doing), they want you to run their trucks. I like everything about Prime but the deal with their trucks, so I just went out and got my own. Other Owner/Operator companies that give you 72% of gross require you to have your own trailer, or charge you $180 a week to 'rent' one of theirs. Prime does not do that. 72% running their trailers, with my truck payment, my truck insurance ($250 a month); I can get used to this.

Hey Slick; I wish you well.

Thanks. If things go bad at Prime I can take my truck elsewhere (an advantage of being an O/O). But, so far I'm with Prime almost 2 years, and have seen pretty much all they have to offer. The only complaint was the deal with the truck, and I took care of that. Be safe.

Hey Slick, thanks for serving us out there for so long. I am a vet. One year, honorable discharge, that's another story.
Anyhow, I really like the pitch. I looked at Prime as going back as company driver. Had them in my top 3. Crete, Roehl, and Prime.
My credit is awful right now. Student loans. But if I ever hit the O/O road you have made a great case for Prime. I like the buying of your own truck and then running their trailer at 72%.
Does your insurance afford you a rider policy? If I head out there one day I know my family, wife and boy, love to come out with me.
Crete lets me take em' both until my boy hits 4.
Thanks,
and keep truckin'

My insurance is about $100 a month cheaper than getting it with Prime, and I can take riders. I heard them advertise on SIRIUS radio, 866fast234 FirstGuard Insurance. You have to be leased to a carrier, not an independent. If you credit stinks, Prime does has a program called the ACE II, where you can buy a truck from them. Not too bad of a deal...$9,000 down, and payoff in 3 years (10.25% APR). But you can't slack off any during that 3 years. When I was doing my paperwork to get my truck on there was another fellow there who bought a KW T660 (new) with a 475 Cat 13 speed. He had done the lease thing with Prime and wanted his own truck, so he jumped in. I think if you do that ACE II thing you can even take your truck somewhere else, just keep making the payments. But, running Prime freight @ 72% with their trailers is a pretty good deal. You just have to cut out all the other ways Prime gets their fingers in your pie.

Hey there. Slick, thank you for the reply. If you don't mind, I'll be keeping up with your posts around here. You've got a good way of saying things.
As it stands now, I'll be heading out for Crete land for a year or more. I am not into hood hopping, but the industry tends to drive divers back and forth to each other. In Crete's case I hope that will not be the case.
I ran for Gordon for a year. Liked them. They took care of me. Did a lot of heavy hall, Budweiser and heavy paper, and that ate my miles, but got me home 2 days a week.
But like I said, I'll keep up with ya as you hit the highway. If you find any new ideas for doing the O/O with them or better ways to go about it, let us all know. You have a clear way of writing.

I've got a friend over at CCC and he has been there 2 yrs; he and his wife team. They always tell me they are doing fine. They were written up in the Trucker News awhile back for homeschooling their 13yr old daughter in the truck. No kidding. Anyway, my posts only come when I'm at the house, so they will be about 1 month apart...when I'm on the road I'm either working or sleeping. Best of luck to ya!

im looking for a home any thing will do i guess but why pay them to let u run and they kick u off the truck and fire u if u get a truck they want to keep they never really let u buy a truck with less than 100.000 miles on it so i have heard but then again fuel prices are good cheaper than gas

Did you even bother to read the previous posts?? Slick50 said that one of they guys he was going through with was BUYING a truck and it was BRAND NEW......and don't believe every thing you've HEARD......most people that bad talk a company have only HEARD it from someone else..... Like I've said in another thread......they are not perfect......but, IF you're willing to WORK..... you can make money here.... That was my problem the first time I was here......I had other things on my mind......This time, I'm takin' care of business.......and my family.
