New Rand McNally 85

Been finding a few more needed updates... and none of these new Loves that have opened in the last couple years are listed... which also means the CAT Scales at those new Loves don’t show up either.

 

There are a few reviews of the new tablet up on Amazon. Nobody has anything good to say. I take it with a grain of salt, since satisfied people are less likely to write a review, but 500 bucks is a lot to spend on a navigation system that count route me properly...

 

How is it for listing truck stops? Namely, the non-chain mom and pop types. Garmin absolutely sucks at it.

 

I bought the 85 and could not return it quick enough. Three out of four trips it wanted me to pass my exit and then uturn down the road and return. Each time there were no restrictions on the exits, and they were truck routes. Yes, the vehicle profile was correct. The display was horribly dim as well. Worst of all you can’t set waypoints to modify the route without using an online interface and sending a file to the gps. I hated it.

Back to Copilot on my iPad and couldn’t be happier.

 

If I recall, not bad. You can sort by distance as well. No where near the utility of using Trucker Path, though.

 

Amazing. $500 and they still can’t get it right. Hope I don’t need a new unit anytime soon.

 

Yeah, and it’s crazy expensive. I got lucky and could return mine to Flying J. If not I would have sold it for pennies on the dollar to someone that wanted it. Maybe future software updates would have improved it.

 

That might be Randy Mac's penchant for putting your destination on the right AT ALL COSTS. I get it, but it's still dumb.

 

Never heard this before and don't recall experiencing it with my TND 730. Why would a big truck prefer making right turns anyway? Left turns give more room.
