My strategy would be to not mark a reset unless needed and do it from recap, that way, if you ever needed a reset, you would be well past worrying about whether or not 168 hours had elapsed. It's pretty easy for me as I almost never bump the 70, though, for those running much harder, it will decrease productivity.
The holidays with less work available will make the 168 hour rule a big hassle, IMO. Any kind of unplanned downtime will have the same effect.
New RE-START rule really sucks...

This week, probably will not show a restart since I will be off a full week.
-
Talked to the boss about it again today.....
He said keep bringing it up and he'll make me take 5-7 day weekends.....
I think I'll talk to him about it on Wednesday again...
sdaniel, DragonTamerBrat and Big Jay Thank this. -
Probably be in a bad mood and cut the pay rate.
-
You know it.....
He turned away mumbling something about waxing the truck by hand too. -
I run off the recap, no problem, don't ever do a reset and run 3,000 + miles per week. Take a reset when I go home. Not that big of a deal.
Bayle Thanks this. -
Just recap...I can drive Indefinately using a recap.
-
And remember your restart must be done at your home terminal now... So if you run out of hours over the road it is your own fault you have to recap now... no if's ands or buts about it.. https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/topics/hos/index.htm

The only connection to "home terminal" is the time clock you run on. If you are eastern based, your clock is eastern and you can take it in Cali.48Packard, otherhalftw, Roadmedic and 2 others Thank this. -
I suggest you read your link a bit closer and get the real information.
You do not have to take it at your home terminal..............................
ONLY AT THE HOME TERMINAL TIME.........
