What standard? There isn't one. YOU just happened to work at two carriers that happen to use the same number...

    Total mess it is!

I used to work for DOD as a Driver Training Instructor and DOD requirement was min 4 hours a night. The PA back then wouldn't say were this rule came from. It was in place when he was assigned as an examiner. No clue. Thanks for the assistance.

well what is the neck size and bmi that will get them to make you want you to take the sleep apnea test?

Varies from carrier to carrier... because there is no set standard. My carrier uses 17" neck, BMI over 40 (this isn't set depending on everything else), plus... throat restrictions, results from a survey including whether you answer the question on snoring in a positive way. Finally, the medical doctor on staff when you get your DOT physical at orientation examins you, and has to order it.

There's an awful lot of angst over this, and the bottom line is treatment for sleep apnea is improving a lot of folks lives as well as treating a real medical condition that leads to low blood-oxygen levels when you sleep.

First, Its not always because a person snores. I don't snore.

Second, it is correct that larger individuals are at a higher risk for sleep apnea, I'm 72" and only weight 176.

Third, I'm not a candidate for apnea. How I found out I had apnea? My wife would go to sleep after me and numerous times she told me I stopped breathing in my sleep. Plus I would wake up with a headaches.

So I went and took the test on my own and sure enough I had sleep apnea. Know I'm headache free and fully alert all day.

    silverdrifter Thanks this.

If I'm not mistaken, I've read in the Maverick forum that their company pays for the test. But if you need the machine Maverick will provide it but you would have to make payments on the machine. If you do have sleep apnea, then once you get used to the machine you will feel 100% more rested. It may take a couple of week to a couple of months to get used to wearing it.
