Just wanted to give a quick update. Got my shifting down pretty well and feel real comfortable with it, I was scared to death of the alley dock and was sweating real bad the first time I hit the road. Still nervous, but not as bad.![]()
Anyways, took my final's today. Maneuver's, pretrip inspection and road test. I nailed all of them. After the road test, the examiner told me that he never give's out a score of 10 or under. I got a 9. Also got 129 out of 130 on my pretrip, missed my fender mirror. And 2 points out of 9 on the maneuvers....the lower the better, (not sure if every state is the same).
Now, I'm going to take a couple days off and contact one of the prehires on Monday. Hopefully I'll be on the road in a couple weeks. Cant wait. Hope to see you on the road sometime. I'll let you know which company I get with. Thanks for all the help. I appreciate it!!!

Jim,
I am new here myself, to the board. But going on 19 years out here on the road, O/O. You sound like you have the right attitude, because this line of work is not for everyone.
Keep your chin up! Because I am sure it will be smacked a few times real good.
Best of LUCK!
Mike
Your neighbor from down the road in Grass Lake MIAfterShock Thanks this. -
(dont want to bump this thread, but wanted to update).
Got my first 2500 mile week in with a trainer. What an experience!! I got to drive in snow, wind, rain and ice. I'm so glad this happened with trainer. Took us 2.5 hours to make it around Indy. Happy to be training in the winter months, cause I wouldn't want to tackle this kind of weather alone.
It was a long 2 weeks away from home, (orientation and 1 week of driving), and am now only going to be gone 1 week at a time. Got homesick..is that normal????
My trainer said that I'm a good, safe driver. Was glad to hear that. Still have to work on the backing. Right now, thats the only thing that I fear...along with the qualcom.
I have had a week off for the holidays and am heading out after the new year. Only 5 more weeks to go, then hopefully will get my own truck, (company). Cant wait.

As long as you "bump" it gently, --- like backin' into a loadin' dock, --- I doubt you'll hear any complaints.

Tell us about it!I'll bet.
Pretty high pucker factor? For Indy, that ain't too bad.
Me neither?
Define "normal".
YuP!
For some it gets easier, for some it gets worse.
Me TOO!
Bad Big truck truck drivers scare me.That's the way I was, too.
When I mentioned that to my trainer, he pointed out that we had driven nearly 2,000 miles, and asked how far we had backed up.
I thought about it and answered --- not very far.
Backin' comes in time, and with some effort, you'll get the hang of it and it'll be second nature.
Trust me on that. That's a GOOD sign, Jimbo.
ShuX HowdY --- I'm a-feared of the dad-burned Qualcom.
It's twue!
It's twue!
What an adventure.
Best of success to you, Jimbo.
And a Left Coast -----
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

7 weeks out with trainers and I got my first load. Been sort of a cluster since I got it. Pick up was at 9:00 am and I got the load assignment at 10:00 am. Go figure. Then a flat tire on my trailer, then hit ice around Chicago. A few big trucks jack knifed and quite a few 4 wheelers in the median. Oh what fun. I'm glad I was with a trainer for 7 weeks of bad weather driving. It seems that's all I got to drive in during training...ice, snow, rain, fog, etc. Needless to say my first load is going to be late. Pretty much everything that happened was out of my control.
