I almost went flatbed too. My recruiter asked if I would go reefer and I said sure. She said I can change to just about anything I want to since I live in Ohio. I start August 12th. I'll be sure to say HI when we are there. You will be starting your last week when I begin. GOOD LUCK!

Hey guys just got a preoffer for roehl....very excited 2 weeks left of trucking school in va then i can start. Just wondering does anyone know what comes inside the trucks? Like fridge etc so i know what i need to provide myself. Thanks ahead of time

Quick answer: you'll need to buy a 12V cooler, for example Koolatron. You can run a microwave if you have them provide and install a 120V inverter for you at a deduction of $50 per paycheck for seven paychecks. The inverter will stay on for a max of 2 hours before needing to be shut off for 10 hours before it will power up again. More details on some other recent threads; search for terms like "inverter". Edit: It's the "what will Roehl let you put in their trucks" thread.Last edited: Aug 1, 2013

Thanks techno do u know if a gps is also provided?
-
Some of the very newest trucks have a GPS app built into the TruckPC console that's used for receiving dispatches, recording your hours of service, and so on. Most of their trucks do not have this though. If you do decide to get a GPS, be aware of the limitations of typical "consumer" GPS units in that they are not designed for trucks and do not know about truck-restricted roads.jamivow Thanks this.

Thanks again techno just glad to see a strong support system.here. Anything else i should know about the company like do we get over 2000 miles a week and do they keep us moving? I love money so i want all i can get.

I had a chance to use that pc GPS for about a month. It's basically worthless, you'd be better off with a car GPS. If you get one, buy one designed for truck use. I like my rand McNally one.
technoroom and jamivow Thank this. -
I will start looking for a gps now thanks so much

I have been happy with my miles. The miles you get, along with the miles you're able to drive time-wise, depend on whether you're pulling van vs. flatbed and so on. As a flatbedder I spend more time on live load/unload and securement/tarping and less time (miles) driving than a van or reefer driver probably does, but the pay per mile is different to account for that.
