All new drivers hit that plateau.. when you first begin, your progress is VERY high.. and the skills come up really quick.. then it seems like the skills tend to even drop off a little bit. It's normal and you'll pick up the smoothness with sheer repetition.. when you start to feel comfortable... be wary! this is a potentially dangerous time for all drivers.

Manual transmissions aren't to be out of gear longer than to change gears, it's considered being out of control, and the person administering the test will most likely fail you for it.

Very common.. Believe it or not, driving a standard transmission is getting to be quite the rarity. You will do fine. Learn HOW the system works and work within the parameters of the system. This is why sometimes women are easier to train that men believe it or not. Women tend to work with the system.. Men sometimes see this as something to defeat.. something to make work the way they want it to. Have some fun with this, learn to laugh at yourself and everything will be fine.

I will be sure to pay extar attention to the shifting. I am somewhat at a crossroad as to what school to attend. Im looking at both thecdlschool https://www.cdlschool.com/, or http://www.ntts.edu/. Can I get some input? I dont know what makes one better then the other.

I'm attending school also. I find that since I had never driven manual transmission before then, I picked up double clutching very quickly. Only had a little trouble with downshifting.
