Hello all. I have a question that I’m hoping some of the people here can help me with.
I’ve had my cdl for about five years mostly all local work hauling bulk in oilfield or bulk cattle feed. I have never been otr other than a few overnight runs to surrounding states. I’ve been thinking about getting into flatbedding for a while but have been dragging my feet. A friend of mine is getting out of trucking due to health reasons and has offered to give me a good deal on his newer truck and flatbed.
My question is if there are any companies out there that will lease on an o/o that has no experience working for a flatbed company. This was my eventual goal anyway but I originally planned to work for a company for a year or so before buying and leasing on or getting my own authority. Any help would be appreciated.
New to owner/operator and flatbeding

Mercer will give you a few hours class....
I would call recruiting regarding your experience level, not sure I'd they want OTR experience or not.Afree0485 Thanks this. -
I leased on with a Oregon based flatbed outfit with no flatbed experience. You can PM me for info on how it worked. It was fairly easy though. I made friends with some drivers there and that helped a lot. This place had both o/o and company, so I just went through there company driver load securement trainingLepton1, Nothereoften and Afree0485 Thank this.

I know Landstar has a 2 day flatbed training class in Ft Worth.
They do require 1 yr over the road experience, including snow/ice driving. They are very nitpicky when hiring someone. They will verify EVERYTHING..blairandgretchen, 062 and Afree0485 Thank this. -
Mercer will lease you on as long as you are meet their requirements for safety. Securement training is a couple days, enough to teach you the basics and there's people you can call if you need help.
whoopNride and 062 Thank this. -
Am I thinking right that Mercer is like Landstar and has their own load board to pull loads off of?
