That is an ex-company truck (forgot to get fleet name). Most of the warrranty work has been done at Rush in Houston, mostly piddly stuff. The A/C compressor was changed out at 97k miles 6/2/04.

For some reason I'm not able to log onto Caterpillar, so I can't give you any info on the engine right now....

I do not know much about any aftermarket addons to improve fuel milage, but I will tell you what I do know, but you probably already do too.

Keep the overhead run!!! this is what I see most driver ignor!!!!!!!!
    tires properaly inflated
set the cruise as slow as you can stand it :biggrin_2559:

I'm sorry I can't help you more than this....

the truck is set up with an electronic tach. the motor was replaced with an older unit which has a mechanical drive. I don't really care which way it goes I just want to get it working. and it's hard to get info on anything because they just ask for the last six of the vin but my motor is not original, it's an 81 model according to cummins. the truck is an 86. I fugured it'd be cheaper to find a pulse generator that fit the mechanical drive but after looking into it more I'm not so sure anymore. I love the old 359's and I'm trying to get this one running on a major budget so it can earn enough to at least pay for it's own restoration.

Are you sure that last six is correct? I could'nt get anything to come up in SIR.....

Yes, you can bump it up to a 500, but I belive that is going to run you around $500, so how long is it going to take 25 hp to pay for itself, if ever....

Like I've stated before, the most important thing you can do is keep your overhead ran, after that, there is not really any thing to fiddle with, that ultrashift should take care of itself. How do you like that ultrashift???

what kind of numbers are you seeing out of it now?

I hate the ultra shift I'm driving now. but it's a company spec so I don't have much to say about how it's set up. The truck won't run 55 without constantly searching for gears and I find it to be rather "glitchy"

Ok, this thread has gone in so many directions, I forgot which one we're talking about.

If your trying to get this done as cheap as possible, I'm no parts man, but I would assume going the mechanical route would be the cheapest, even though you would have to buy another head. Have you check with a bone yard?

not yet, this is something I just started thinking about and I work 6 days a week so that is hard to do. I'm gona head up to pete in Lufkin this weekend for some other stuff and ask around. Not sure if I really want a 25 year old unit from a bone yard anyway. I was hopin you were an old timer when I started asking.
I seem to be real short on time here lately
