It's a simple DOT physical and drug test. Takes maybe 10 minutes.
Probably pass easily if your blood pressure is ok.
Tell the recruiter you may be off a little on the work dates. No big deal as long as you're being truthful.Mooseontheloose and twpaq Thank this. -
I don't think I'll have an issue there then. I'll let him know tomorrow. Asking for insight from you or any other drivers, is there anything I should ask during this process that is important before training? My main goal is to be a solo OTR driver. I'll likely try to go in mid to late May and that gives me an opportunity to study up.

You're going about it right; just kick back and relax and you'll be ok.
Hopefully, some other drivers will respond and give you some helpful hints.
I love that coast to coast refrigerated trucking. Did it for 18 years and never got tired of it. I'm a Vet also, and really enjoyed the solitude of night driving on those long coast to coast runs.

Thanks for your service! I was only in for 2 years unfortunately and was Honorably Discharged. However, hopefully the fact of serving as opposed to TIS is what they'll consider and that I'll still have a chance. Refrigeration sounds pretty cool, I read somewhere that you have to unload the truck as well? Do you just drive? Maybe I'm thinking of something else... How do you pick or go about getting the runs you want or for this instance something such as you had done? Night driving does seem and look quite nice!

Welcome twpaq!
Im new to this site also and looking to obtain my CDL and get started in the career like you. The only difference between us is: I have over 20 years on you (53) but Ive never let my age discourage me or make me believe like "im too old" for this or that. Good luck to ya, keep me posted as to your progress....I'm right behind you buddy!Mooseontheloose and twpaq Thank this. -
Age is but a number indeed! I look forward to seeing your journey as well! Supposedly I'm waiting on a interview call from Jim Palmer sometime this week, but not sure if that will pan out. I haven't done any other applications, so I need to do one for Swift.

Good company as a starter company and you have negative things to say? Yet you have been there for 20 years? Interesting. I’m not sure you have good advice on pms. Stay clear of this guy
18 wheelers are 30 times easier to back than a jet ski trailer. Shorter the trailer, the easier it is to jackknife. That’s common knowledgeOldeSkool, Mooseontheloose and twpaq Thank this. -
Signing on with Swift, you'll have a contract and you're stuck with them for a year. I'd recommend using your GI Bill and getting your CDL that way. You'll get the BAH Stipend while your doing that as well. You're likely to run into recruiters at whatever school you go to aswell. Check the companies out on here, ask around, pick what is right for you. After that you can use the VA OJT benefit and collect a couple grand a month from that while you're in training and such. This is what I'm doing, anyways. Do what you feel is best.

I generally leave out criticizing a company unless they set my hair on fire, but I got interested in your thread and feel compelled to urge you to Not do Swift. So many better options. So many reasons to not be a swift driver. Just Don't, Son.Mooseontheloose Thanks this.
