HI All.
I've been hauling Hazmat (Gas, Diesel, Jet, Ethanol) for 23 years and was laid off because the company sold out. Now I'm back on the market to find work. I'm 62yrs old and my wife is retired. She stays home and would never think about driving. Shes an awful back seat driver. I've been driving for over 30 years and she still tells me how to drive. LOL. So teem driving is out of the question.
I've worked a day shift getting paid hourly for many many years. Going home every night and still managing to bring home 140k a year. Now I'm thinking of finding something that will have me out for just a couple of days or three but driving for a company, not wanting to buy a truck at my age.
Does anyone have any ideas of where I should start looking? BTW, I'm in Colorado. If I go back to Fuel I know they are going to want me to do night shift and that's not a great idea.
Any comments are welcome. Hope you all managed to have a good holiday no mater where you were.
Stay safe!
new to the group & looking...

You don't specify where you are in Colorado -- so that makes worthwhile suggestions much more difficult.
With that said -- the following offers a choice of schedules, & thus may be of interest for you -- read more about it at:
Fuel delivery -- STI -- Commerce City, Co

Hey hey, a fellow Coloradoan, welcome aboard. The no night driving will limit you to daytime jobs. Since at your age, I reckon physical type jobs, like beverage or package delivery are out, so the only thing left is like refuse haulers, line haul or P&D, and dump trucks work. Equipment operators are in demand too, Colorado is going nuts with building, and delivery to those jobs is big. My little town, Salida, isn't so little anymore, and building is at a record pace. I don't think many jobs will match what you got paid, maybe half that, but I learned, not what you make, but what you spend, if possible. Walmart is always hiring and at $20/hour, they don't work too hard.

Thanks for the replys.
I should have been more specific. Im in Colorado Springs. STI would work if I was in Denver but a drive of 75 mins to and from daily would be tough. Although fuel prices in CO are pretty good.
Salida. I used to deliver to the Loaf n Jug. And 20 an hr would be half of what I used to make. Plus being OTR. I thought OTR would pay more than I was making.
I may have to wait for Spring and start all over hauling fuel again. Or go OTR but that would be tough on the wife.
Building supplies would be good except Im not physically able enough to do hard work unloading or tarping. I havent tarped a load since the late 80s.Last edited: Dec 28, 2024

Not an option as they sold out then i got laid off. Trimming the payroll is my guess.
After the new year i will apply to all the fuel hauling companies. If that doesnt get me anywhere then i will apply to other than fuel companies hopefully to get me by until fuel hauling picks up as this is the wrong time of year. Then go back to fuel. Guess this time of year i will just have to take whatever i can find.
