Hello all!
I'm a 50 (almost 51) year-old former (lotsa stuff) guy just getting started. I'm going to be taking my test in the next week or so in WA state, which I'm told is about the roughest test in the country. Feeling solid with inspections/pretrips, backing and over-the-road. REALLY looking forward to getting to work, learning my new trade and being a great, safe and conscientious driver.
I am TOTALLY non-mechanical, but now I know how to adust a slack adjuster, check my hubs and generally get greasy and have fun. (God help me if I ever have REAL mechanical difficulties, because "figure it out" isn't going to do my company any good. But I am really excited and really motivated and know that know virtually nothing. I suppose that's a good place to start. Hoping I have a great trainer with Systems Transport, who has generously consented to hire me.

Welcome Juba,
Systems is a good outfit, and you will have decent equipment that wont break down on ya. They have a pretty good orientation and training program from what I have heard. One of our members "Ramblingman" has a great thread sharing the ups and downs of his time with Systems. Hey theres ups and downs no matter where you go, but IMHO Systems Transport is a great company to get started with!

Let me know if I can be of more help...X -
Thanks for the reply. I'm excited about systems. If you read the other thread I started you know that I've had trouble with training. I was totally honest about it with Systems and they were nothing but supportive. just told me to fix the problem (whch I did) and come to work. Looks like anyone I go with as a Noob driver is going to have some serious downsides. Systems seems to have the least. And since I know I'm clueless about ACTUAL driving OTR, I NEED the solid training Systems has a reputation for. Like anything else, it seems to me live startibng out as a driver you just have to pay some dues. Being a clueless noob, I'm lucky to gt hired by even a halfway decent company. I bring very little to the party right now except willingness. In a year I'll be in a different position and have more options. Who knows, maybe I'll love Systems so much i'll stay there forever. Either way, I get out what I put into it I figure. If I decide to move on later, I expect no hard feelings.
