hi guys. just a quick question will a turbo for a 5ek work on a 2ws. I have a kw with a 5ek that puts up over 40 pounds of boost and was wondering if this same turbo would have as much boost on my pete which has a 2ws. with the stock turbo the 2ws is putting up about 30 pounds of boost. Thanks

Giving you guys an update and wanted your feedback. Looking at the 199114 or the 177148. I'm in the process of finding my serial number for my motor. It's a 1985 359 which makes me think it's a 7fb motor. But I want to confirm this before ordering the turbo. If anyone has put the 177148 waste gated turbo on a 7fb motor I would love to hear from you.
All my oil lines, feed and return, as well as, crossover pipe are solid. meaning if this turbo isn't like the one I have I will be fabricating or ordering new lines. I really want to try the 177148 but I'm having trouble finding anyone who has put this turbo on a 7fb.
Smokin' Cat you seem to be a big supporter of the 177148, do you think it's worth fabricating this turbo in or safer to go with the 199114.
Thanks everyone, -
Any updates on your choice? I have a 7fb and am looking into turbo replacement
-
Why would you need to fabricate anything, it would take the same crossover tube/elbow as the 199114 though you may need to find an oil feed and return from a more modern engine.
The 177148 is quite a bit more modern then the 199114 and will likely out preform it in any situation.seth Pivarnik Thanks this. -
I've got a friend who runs the same build as I... 3406 mechanical build on a C block. He runs a 6051 and had to modify for the inter cooler as I'd have to do for any newer style setup. His crossover was cut by the Cat House, a hump hose added between the turbo compressor side. Oil feed was changed to a braided line, return cut and hose added with clamps for the offset in the line. Looks good, seems to work good for him. I need to get better spool up on mine... I'm throwing fuel away with bad spots at 1500 to 1600 rpm where it just flutters out.

Just put a 178063 Borg Warner wastegated turbo on a 3406B after reading several post in here. I was afraid to use the larger ones a lot of guys recommended, due to be a stock engine, and was worried not enough ponies to turn it. Have to say thanks to a lot of people in here. My buddies truck has never ran so well. Like that fact you can adjust the wastegate also to control your max boost.

There are two different crossover tubes for the older engines, one measures 3.75" and the other 4.25" on the turbo side, the later turbos all use the 4.25 tube.

No modification, all cat parts with a BW turbo 3406E replacement turbo. -
The snag I ran into was the oil lines, both feed and return lines do not even come close. The wastgate actuator lays directly where the lines need to go. Your oil line in the picture is different from the original cat 7fb oil line. It's not a huge job, however, you need to either change the line or cut heat and bend the line so it goes around the actuator.
When you do complete the job, the turbo is much better then the 199119 turbo. It does not take as much fuel and air to light it. And the boost is much smoother and higher. To be perfectly honest power pulling is prob about even, but fuel mileage is better, as well as, egts.
To anyone considering this swap, I think you'll be happy. Maybe your situation will differ from mine, but it was not a direct bolt on. Took me a full day for installation.seth Pivarnik Thanks this. -
Yes, that oil feed line is off of a 3406E that originally had a wastegated turbocharger.
