Hello all, I am getting a new Volvo on Monday with the I-shift trans. anyone want to offer some advice to me as I have only driven a 10 speed. Years ago I drove a yard horse that was auto trans. but this seems much different.

Hopefully the fuel mileage is what they claim!!

    Thanks for any advice,
    James

James, your right foot will decide how good or bad the I shift works.
It will take a little time to figure out but once you get the feeling for using the throttle in the right way...............you will love it.

And if you want good MPG then being gentle is very important.

Full throttle is hardly never needed or advised.

    maffy95 and Elroythekid Thank this.

Put it in drive and forget about it, once you get use to it there are some things you can manipulate, cruise, jakes, etc.

    Just read your manual.

    Elroythekid and maffy95 Thank this.

I had a 670 with the I-shift a few years ago. I generally let it do its own thing. Mine had a E/P button on the rear of the shifter I usually left it in E for economy and put it in P for performance when I wanted it to wind out the gear a little more. On the side of the shifter should be little +/- buttons. YOu can put in into the M position for manual and use the up down buttons to hold it in gear for the grades. Left to its own devices it can have a tendency to want to upshift on downgrades. Mine had the jake controls on a control stalk on the right of the wheel. I got pretty decent mileage with the I-shift hooked up to the Volvo D13. If I remember correctly I got around 7 on flat ground.

We only had 1 A/T in the family, back in the '60s when PBs were touchy and the pedal was ~a foot wide. Us kids would drive it, reach for the clutch at the end of the DW (because we'd been taught to not ride it, with some application of force) and slam on the brakes.
