Just my 2 cents but if you can do a lot of work yourself(mechanically inclined, tools, facility etc) you may be better off with used. If you are going to the shop for everything you may be better off with new. But as Rank said it’s a crap shoot. New doesnt always mean trouble free. I did it for 44 yrs and had both.

The old girl was pretty good at light weights, but a thirsty SOB at anything over 70K, especially in the hills. Everything was checked, CAC, etc, etc. She would do the job, but we pull live cargo, and have to make time. She just was thirsty when running hard. -
Just my .02 but real cost of the truck in the shop isn't the repair costs alone it's the 700 -1000 a day lost in revenue and the pissed off customers and loss of future loads.
