Welcome to NY. We don't have weigh stations. NYSP sets up shop in any rest area, scenic pulloff or wide spot on the shoulder, sticks out those little signs with orange flags on them, and goes to it. Some rest areas that see frequent use as inspection stations have permanently mounted signs with lights (and cameras). Those signs are the same signs you'd see if there was an accident scene ahead, or some short-duration construction, or similar. Thus his citing you for missing them and driving on by, definitely a Failure to Obey Traffic Device. The direction the troopers vehicles were pointed means absolutely nothing. Believe me, if they decide to chase a runner, it's not any kind of hindrance if they have to turn the car around. Or, if they are going to flag you in for inspection, it's irrelevant if their vehicle is facing away from traffic entering the rest area.

I will concur with the other posters in that you were given a break... he could have decided that you should come in for the full examination, with creepers. Since you decided to revisit the scene for some reason, I'm absolutely shocked that he did not do so on your second appearance. Sounds to me like he gave you a second break. Take it for what it is, and next time pull in. More than likely you'll be either completely ignored (if they're in their cars) or be waved on through (if they're standing out there and there are trucks parked). I live here and run everywhere in NY every day of the week, and I just got my first inspection in 4 years a few months back.

There is a difference between a Weigh Station and an Inspection Station. Its hard to believe that in 3 years, you have never seen one set up in a pickle park. They're all over the country. Usually all I have to do to avoid one is follow some steeringwheelholder and wait for him to miss. And they ALWAYS miss. Station gets closed and Bear goes to chase mode.

The same guys that run the inspection ttations are the same guys that cant read the maintain 30 mph through the weigh stations.

"But Six, I am a safe driver."

Even if there is just an inspection there are still ways to appeal it. If you DataQ the violation it gets reviewed. If there is evidence it shouldn't have been listed on the inspection it will be removed and there will be no points assesses.

Ok, thank you for your reply and thanks for having the LEO backs, I'm sure they will appreciate that on your next inspection.

I wasn't on the phone and I was paying attention.

But I can't recall what happened before I saw the last sign, like I said I might've been passing somebody. Sometimes in thick traffic people fail to see the speed limit sign behind other vehicles, it happens all the time. And mind you, the speed limit sign is waaay higher than one of them makeshift sad signs they were using

The presumption of innocence is still in force in the US of A, from what I understand. Beats me why you chose to side with someone else instead of your fellow truckee.

To my defense I want to also add that I've always been running Midwest to West Coast and have never seen any temporary inspection sites

You messed up, learn from it and move on. It's not the end of the world.

Like others mentioned, the cop could have gone harder on you.

The juvenile action of going back, ranting at the cop and spitting negates much of any sympathy you may have got.
