Hello everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been reading this forum for several months now, and I truly appreciate all of the information, insight, and entertainment this forum has to offer. I considered becoming a truck driver about 4 years ago (21 at the time)...but the idea faded when I found out most of the local companies here in Ohio that I was interested in wouldn't consider me until I was 23. So I got a degree, had trouble finding a job that made the time in college worth it, and so I hoped from job to job for awhile until I found a semi-decent office job for a construction company. I've spent the past few months researching and really making sure that I want to make the jump into the trucker lifestyle. That included reading what members of this forum about various schools, companies, etc. I was really hoping to start school with Old Dominion Freight Line and work for them, but it didn't seem like they were able to take me one...so I tried Millis and Swift. Just when Millis called me, I got the call from Old Dominion. I've been approved to start when they do the next class, and in the meantime I do 25 hours of basic yard time in my free time unpaid.
My uncle has been with Old Dominion for about 8 years now, and it really seems like an excellent company. (I mean they PAY you while you get your CDL through them).
Hopefully all goes well!!! Thanks to all of you who are active in this forum for all the information you have to share. It really helped out this trucker wanna be!
Welcome to the formum. i think you have made an excellent carreer choice. aset
