I guess I'll buy the wilson 1000 mag mount with the short load, I figure it will be better than my lil wilson, I guess I can use the 1000 and the short load with my 520xl until I save some money for the upgrade.

About the 10 meter cb's which I don't know much, but as long as you stay on channel 19 your in good shape.

Any recommendations on a good low price 10 meter cb or should I just go for the connex 4600.

You can buy a lot of radio for the price of that 4600. It sounds like you have your heart set on it though. If you're going to buy one of those built in linear radios, I'd look at the Galaxy 95t, it's basically the same radio, but has SSB, a big meter, and a frequency counter. For the money though, I'd recommend a smaller radio and an external amp, if you decide you really need the amp. That short load whip may be your limiting factor on how much power you run, it seems like it's only rated for 250 watts. I don't know where you live, but you're bound to hear someone selling a Cobra 25/29 for 40 bucks sooner or later. I'd try one of those and see how you like it before you spend the big bucks.

I would like an internal amp built in the cb instead of an external amp, if I get the wilson 1000 I know that will help out if I get a cb with high watts.

With internal amp it's easier to move the cb, I need something portable that I can transfer from car to car and that is strong with built in amp.

I live in Houston, but I would rather buy new since I'm a beginner at this and I don't want to get taken on a cb, because the lack of my experience.

I'm just trying to get something strong, with my little 520xl I get over powered quick, so something strong with built in amp would be nice.

I have no experience with the modification, but the rfx75 Cobras seem to be the new low-dollar powerhouse. I would look up Sparky's cb shack. Give him a call and see what he recommends. He's a really nice guy, and he won't sell you more than you need or can handle.

The rfx75 is a bolt on replacement final section, so it's internal in the sense that it's not separate from the radio. Google it. Call Sparky, he apparently has it down to an art. Again, I have no experience with these, I only know what I've read. They're not exactly my cup of tea, but it might be exactly what you're looking for.

The RFX75 isn't an amp. But yes Sparkys does sell a Cobra 25 with the RFX75 mod done that's producing 100 + watts of modulation. That would be worth looking into if all you want is a basic CB radio that is high powered.

with the short load antenna it would be just as tall as the lil wilson. I have the lil wilson on a chevy trailblazer and when i go into parking garages i take it down not because i feel its gonna break the antenna but because its noisy banging on signs and such.

now the wilson 1000 does have a removable coil which will leave the magnet on your vehicle when you go into areas where height is a problem.
