CB shop wants your money!! Of Course it's clear and if even half of what you are saying they did is true it sounds like they haven't got a clue what they are doing. Yes get with a buddy. Have HIM drive your truck a mile away and try communicating with his gear to yours. Judge for yourself if the signal is clear. Better yet find a ham willing to help you with your CB. We aren't all CB friendly. There is history there, so don't get up set if they say no. Finding a newer ham is better. Us older ones know the history.
If you are talking about one of little round Satellite dishes like the Qualcoms use you should be fine. You want that thing as high possible and clear to the sky.
Now I will say this. When you locate that ham ask him about the Amateur Radio Service and what it can do. You might find it a whole lot more fun.

There has been a fair amount of skip going on lately and Some channels have alot more white noise then others due to people using them in other parts of the country. So going to another channel would produce better comunications. I know 14 has been pretty bad lately with alot of spanish skip on the airwaves.
If you are getting crystal clear transmit from your setup to another at 3 or 4 miles and you are happy with it, then leave it be. It can be much better if you go with one cental mounted antenna on your pickup but that choice is yours. As for your satalite radio antenna, no worries with a stock radio. -
