Greetings,
Been lurking for a few years. I'm 54 and recently acquired a 2-year med card. I'm hoping to start trucking school in a month or two. Just wanted to say "Hi" and that this is a wonderful & informative forum/website.
Cheers

Where are you in Nevada? Which school will you attend?
MBAngel Thanks this. -
Thanks for the welcome, folks. Chinatown, I'm in Reno, so I'll probably be going to Nevada Desert Truck Driving School. I'm planning on getting my permit before enrolling. Have a great weekend, everybody.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Nevada Desert Truck Driving School looks ok on the website.
Noticed one ad on there; Werner pulling a Dollar General trailer; don't do it. That Dollar General account is a fast way to derail a trucking career.
Let us know what you're looking for in trucking and we'll try to give you some company names to consider. -
Don’t let your age throw you. We have others around that number just starting out and they do quite.
@Goobr54 for example. -
Welcome, I'm starting over again at 41. This is a great place to start getting all sorts of helpful info. Just recently graduated from Sage School in Lebanon, PA. Looking to pull tankers out of Jersey. Best of luck to you.

Hello again,
Sorry, I haven't logged in since my original post. I'm a bit unsure as to what type of trucking I'd like to get into as a newbie. I'd like to avoid 48-state OTR, if possible, but I think I'd be okay w/ some sort of regional work, as long as it's a company that hires out of either Northern Nevada or Northern California.
(I may have to move back to Calif. in the future for family reasons)
I'd also be interested in food/beverage type of work. I guess my biggest fear is gaining a ton of weight. I'm 5'11'' and about 160 lbs and really would like to keep it that way.
Anyway, I still have a lot of company research to do and am planning on keeping an open mind regarding types of jobs. I'm still not quite sure when I'll be enrolling in school, hopefully by October. I may even attend school in Calif. (thinking of Commercial Drivers Learning Center in Sacramento) after getting my Nevada CLP. -
Central Transport - hires from selected cdl schools. Their ads don't always have that information, but they do. I think they have a terminal in Reno or Sparks. Sometimes an ad will have "6 mos. experience" required, but that's not cut in stone at all.
Dress to impress and drop by the terminal and talk to the terminal manager in person and tell him you really would like to work there and plan to start cdl school soon.
