Hi all, this is my first post so please be gentle!
I am signed up to start my CDL class in 10 days. I will be going to Western Pacific Truck School here in Centralia, WA. I have always wanted to be a truck driver since I was about 8 years old...I am almost 27 now. I am both very excited to start my new career/lifestyle as a truck driver but I am nervous at the same time. I am a big guy but I am able to do the normal work I would have as a truck driver. My last job was unloading 53' trailers by hand (All we had were hand-trucks). I am aware of the new physical requirements that are being put in place and because of that, I have been eating healthy and exercising everyday.
I just had a health screening done a couple months ago. Everything was fine except my weight. My blood pressure was fine, my bad cholesterol was "remarkably low" according to the nurse (it was around 70). Oh, and my good cholesterol was a bit low as well. Also, I do not have sleep apnea. I am just a "Big Guy".
Just from what I have been reading, it almost sounds like you need to meet military physical requirements to be considered as an OTR trucker for some companies so I am just a bit nervous. I guess I will find that out for myself soon. I will keep this post updated with my experiences getting into truck driving...good and bad...
Thank you all for reading

Nice to meet you and good luck on your journey. Hope it all works out.

Good for you. Remember, there are no dues to pay when you start your first job so don't settle for a crummy company thinking that's all you can get right out of school. Get all the endorsements so you will have more job opportunities. Start researching companies now. Here's a couple to check; Watkins & Shepard, trans-system. Trans-system has 3 companies to choose from that hire new CDL graduates; refrigerated, flatbed, tanker.
