Just got on here after reading a few of the different topics, and thought I should join up to another forum. This is the first trucking one the others are for garden tractors, mainly Wheel Horse my downfall.
Anyway, a little background to show I'm older than dirt. I started driving dumptruck back around 1970 then in the winters I went OTR for a guy that his son couldn't back up, I did the backin up and and road driving but wasn't old enough to run on the road so I'd stop before the scales and ports of entery and swap out. After a few years of driving I ended up buying some of my own trucks got tired of dealing with bad drivers and sold them and stayed "local" around 95 got tired of city driving and started running heavy equipment but with the economy dumping and companies keeping us at 40 hours a week I couldn't make enough in 6 mos. of working and 6 months of un-employment. I decided to go back into driving last winter, problem was I was out of it too long and found alot of companies won't hire unless you have current driving experience. I got on with a small [60/70 trucks] company that has a road division. Started with a 53' van to Chicago for the first load [oh joy] after a month or so went to the end dumps. We run a midwest area mainly, home weekends. But just like any company there are some complaints. But so far so good it sure is different than when I was in it before! E-Logs are nice, I-Pass are great!
That is about it for now. You'll notice I get long winded too!
Got to figure out how to post pic's and avatar.
