Vegas Bill, if I helped steer you to Crete, I say "you're welcome". Keep in touch. I'm about to go to a refresher course in Salt Lake City and then go get my old job back at CCC. I'll be based in SLC at first, but I may relocate to Texas.

Maybe I'll catch you out there.

    Hey VegasBill:

Got a question for you...I am looking at Crete as well (thanks to Tip) and was wondering what their recruiter said about your CDL school and your background. I don't want to sell myself to one of the low-level companies just to get the CDL. Any thoughts? Also, would you be able to share your recruiter's contact info so I can find out more info? They don't have an email address listed on their site, bummer.

    Thanks VB and Tip!

Just because thats all they are offering does not mean you can not search out the others and see what they say. And is this class PTDI certified, because Crete said I would need 4 months OTR since the class at the Tech School I am waiting on is not PTDI certified.

What you guys are missing here is that a 10 week course is going to prepare you much better then a 3 week course.......

Think about it......you pay Thousands of dollars for a 3 week course that gets you your CDL and very crappy housing and if your very lucky a little food. That is it. A 10 week course will give you the time to learn to drive a truck. Your chances of survival are much greater. You'll get better training and probably crappy housing and if your lucky some food.

Regardless, if you can't support your family while you are in either school, you should wait until you can better afford it.

The results of crappy training can be found in the post...........I ROLLED! in this section.

I did over 10 years driving hauling gasoline for ARCO in Las Vegas Bill and what you should have done is stay in town and haul dirt. They make good money and you've seen construction is not going to slow down there. But if you want the OTR thing you have to get out of Vegas since there's only maybe one or two companies in town. You can go right over to Anderson and Son's and they will hire you and you can go drive trips on one of their line haul if they have an opening. The pay is bad along with the rest of the company but you can get experience there. They're located over on 4204 Arcata, that's close to Loose and Craig. Good Luck.

I am more than half way done with my training and am loving it with Crete, they are treating me very well and I get qualcomms from the training dept and my terminal manager just asking how things are and if I need anything.
I am making 500 a week while in training and will start at .34 cpm when training is complete, that will go up to the going rate for CCC as soon as I make my 1 year mark.
I have had two trainers and both have been great and both have a great deal of knowledge to pass on to me and both know the roads and interstates very well.
I know a lot of people do not like the "Log it as you drive it" policy, but from all I have seen, this will only help keep you out of trouble in the long run.
Good luck to you in what ever you decide.
    Nick
