From what I gather on the ARNOLD forum those guys are pretty happy, like the USX crew.
-
I see you have not been with USX very long have you.

To be a mega carrier, BFI, or whatever you want to consider them, I can say just from research compared to the other companies of the same magnitude they more good reports than negative. Reality is pissed off people will almost always post their disdain for a company but content or happy people hardly ever post their positive reports. No company is going to be perfect to you UNLESS you own it! So the choice is make lemonade with the lemons given or create your own!bigdipper Thanks this.

This is my second mega-carrier (I really don't consider USX a BFI) and I have to say that the drivers who work here have a great attitude compared to the last company I worked at (real BFI). I wasn't unhappy with the last one. The money is just better here.
You are right. USX has thousands of drivers and very few come on here to complain. It's like that with a lot of companies. The complainers are usually disgruntled ex-employees. I've been here a year and there are a few things that irritate me sometimes, but I think it's a pretty good company.bigdipper and DaReallyst Thank this. -
Or maybe he has been with USX more than a few weeksbigdipper Thanks this.

Could be Craig, maybe he has.

Hey HD do you have any recommendations? Bigdipper and I are both looking at companies right now and I would appreciate any suggestions...

You are welcome to read this http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/us-xpress/154748-usx-training-issues.html and see what you think. I did not care how USX treated people but that is my opinion. You will read a lot of different opinions here.
Some people say new people getting into OTR don't have a lot of choices on where to start their career.
USX has a high turn over rate and they don't seem to be able to get a good handle on the, from what I have seen.
Now they are putting to newbie drivers in a truck and want them to team drive, and not pay them very well for it either.
To me I think that it would be difficult to try and sleep in a moving truck night or day with someone else behind the wheel that you hardly know, but yet you have to trust your life to this person.
Once you get thru training, and then start team driving, you might be lucky to be home in 2 months, maybe.
Team Driving means double the possible money for USX on a given day if the Fleet Managers can get you a load, and if you dont get held over with the weekend crew.
You are forced to take the roads they tell you to take.
You are forced to fuel where they tell you to fuel.
Look at the trucks they just bought and the issues with them, they are not really setup for Team Driving.
You can look at Millis, I have always read pretty good things about them
You can look at Watkins & Shepard, no teaming, 10 day at terminal training (paid) and then they send you on your way. You drive the roads you want, and you fuel where you want.
You have to decide on where you are going to go based on what you read, and or hear.
Go to a truck stop and talk to a few drivers and see what they have to say about who they drive for.
Yes there are issues with all trucking companies, and some more then others.
If you do happen to make it to Tunnel Hill take a walk out to the drivers lounge and look at all the people sitting there with no load.
Look outside and see all the trucks parked there.
Trainer, well read the link I posted and you can see what I was dealing with.
In the end, I was very lucky to have a person I met in Orientation that stepped up and took the training class to help me get thru all of it. He was and is a first class guy, that is now out there with his wife running everyday, but this is what he wants to do, and he is happy doing it. Him and his wife live on the road, and don't have a home any longer. Trucking is their life
I say what I did based on my opinions and my experience with USX, and I say it respectfully,
HDbigdipper, DaReallyst and 123456 Thank this. -
I have to say that the .38cpm is less than what they pay an experienced team, but more than many companies pay a newb. I started out making .22cpm and only got to .34 in a year and a half. It's definitely nothing to sneeze at, though I realize not everyone wants to run team. I still think it is a good experience for anyone, having gone through it myself.
