Time management is key aswell. Try to combine fuel stops with pre or post trip insp. While under a load try to limit stopping. If the wheels aren't turn you aren't make money. Get a refrigerator eating in truck stops will break the bank fast.

    Have a life.

Seriously, don't let yourself turn into one of these fat slobs that live in the truck eating pizza and potato chips, then waddle in to the truck stop smelling like a boars @##. Take time to take care of yourself. You'll thank yourself in 20 yrs. Get away from the truck. Spend time with family or whatever hobby you enjoy. If you have a family, THEY COME FIRST.

Be a professional. Don't walk into a customer in sweat pants and flip flops. Always be dressed professionally, it does effect your attitude and behavior. Treat the people you deal with respectfully and professionally. When your driving you are at work, its not play time.

If you're an employee, your job is to make your employer money, that's why they hired you. Too many drivers get this backwards, and its why they never really succeed. If you go into the job to make your employer as much money as you can (without abusing yourself), you have a much better chance for success, especially at smaller companies.

Don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help.

    Don't break rule #1.... Don't hit anything.

Laugh off your mistakes and the mistakes of others. If you let it get to you (and trust me you'll make some knuckleheaded mistakes and see or hear knucklehead mistakes daily) it'll eat you up and piss you off. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. But also don't allow them to take advantage of you. If you do it'll keep going. Things have been going much smoother for me since I blew up on the people on the phone. Make your limit for nonsense known. No one knows you're upset if you don't say anything.
