But if you don't live up to the hopes and dreams of the company, such as needing a couiple breaks every day or not able to drive more than nine hours when they want you to drive ten hours, won't they find a reason to get rid of you?

As I am learning about this industry this may sound way out of whack (but hey thats why I'm learning). Dispatchers seem to like to wait until the last second to send some of these loads out and give drivers a predefined window to get it there. I know it's a business and especially right now there seems to be fewer and fewer loads and leads some companies to grabbing every possible load. Dispatchers are pressured to push through as many loads as possible as quickly as possible...we all know that every load can't be a rushed priority load. It seems to me that a true rushed load should be considered a special load and given to a team that can run it without exceeding legal and physical limits. To me, scheduling some extra time into a run so the driver has ample time to make it to the destination even with some minor unforeseen circumstances would be a simple way to alleviate some of these problems. Hey, it's better to arrive early than not at all.

You will find that common sense is very uncommon in this business.
