The point of the statement was that most (not all) come into the industry with unrealistic expectations. The newcomers to the industry do not realize this is a job. It comes with good and bad aspects as does any job. The industry as a whole and the schools lead these newcomers down the merry path to failure. The newcomers come into the industry without a clue as to what the job actually entails and the sacrafices that one has to make to work in the industry. Shame on the industry and the schools as a whole in their gross misrepresentation as to what the job actually entails.

I'll agree with this. I am technically a "newbie", do I act like one? No. I'm not a "truck driver", I'm a farmer. I have a Class A, drive a little, but it's not my job. Being a newbie is more in how people think. Most who consider themselves to be a "newbie", want others to feel sorry for their efforts that fail, want to be overlooked for screwing up, or want to use that as an excuse as to why they can't or won't do something. People should take pride in themselves. I've grown up pulling trailers with tractors, trucks, 4-wheelers.... My dad even welded a trailer hitch on my go cart as a kid for me to pull a trailer. Stepping up to a big boy ride with a 53' was nothing to me. I had pulled long goosenecks with a ton truck since I turned 16. If I screwed up, my dad chewed my ##### and life went on. Learn from you mistakes. Learn to take time to think about manuvers (sp?) before you get into a situation. If you get into a tight spot, stop and think about it. It don't matter if you make people mad holding up traffic, they would rather sit there an wait than get to call their insurance because you hurt their ride. Be safe!

 

Since when did it come politically correct to call them newbies. Come on! They're ROOKIES!!! Not a bad thing. I'm still a rookie myself.

Everybody had to learn sometime. Weather it be on a farm, from dad, grandpa, or a school. None of us knew how to drive a Truck as not everyone knew how to be a Doctor. We all had to learn. So next time we see a rookie needing some help give them a hand as someone in your life did for you. Drive safe and be happy!
