We used to joke about Werner and JB Hunt drive's doing the "stop right now thing", when their driving time ran out...

Any driver worth his salt, should be well aware of the traffic ahead of him. If one should see a problem where the traffic is slowing down way too much, then pull over to the right, then onto the shoulder and park if necessary.

Since I did not see that May driver that day, I can only imagine that he (or she) was a newbie. For the life of me, how did some of those people even get a CDL..???

Maybe we should also mention driving 52 MPH in the left lane... for miles at a time.

Yesterday some clueless noob got into the car islands at the Pilot J in Lake Station, IN.... and couldn't get out. He may still be there for all I know.

Thats insane..Stopping in the middle of the road like that is an accident waiting to happen in low visibility,so it's pretty simple[JUST PULL OVER!].. When you can see it coming like that, thats when anyone with a thimble full of sense and anticipates the danger ahead and slows down or even pull over before you get into that situation. I understand some people are not comfortable in those situation, but just use common sense and slow down to compensate. Oh any by the way any new drivers out there, don't listen to the super truckers out there that will be talking junk on the radio because they think you are going too slow. Do what you feel is most comfortable, you will run out of it and the billy big riggers can go on by. I've only been driving for 8 years, so in my mind, I'm still a greenhorn, but I do know enough to slow down for the conditions out there and let the big boys do there thing:biggrin_25519:. Just be careful out there and anticipate, anticipate and by all means anticipate. Just my 2 pennies.

Also if you do pull to the shoulder because of the weather, pull off completely, there was a driver killed at my job a few yrs ago when he ran into a trailer of a truck that had pulled off because of thick fog but didn't get his trailer completely off the highway.

If you have to tell somebody that, they shouldnt be driving in the first place.

Common sense cant be taught. There are many people, CDL drivers and 4 wheelers, that have 0 common sense.

I agree, but I still it should be reiterated, regardless. It's easy to get complacent out here, even for experienced drivers, and sometimes it causes people to overlook the finer details.
