I was just pickin. ....As long as your happy, I guess. I just hate to see these wages for driving. Be proud of what you do and tell your boss to get out of the 1950's

    Well, there's the rub.
Depending on what barn you hire-on to, you can be stuck on the bottom of the seniority list for a long time.
What's it like being on the bottom of an LTL board?
You're basically a clean-up man for when top-seniority guys go on vacation or take time off.
You could work 5 days a week, but you could also work 2 days a week.
Or no days waiting by the phone for work.
You have no set start-time: come in one day at 10:00, another day at 12:00, another day at 14:00 then pull a set at night down to the hub and work the dock for 8 hours.
It's a feast in the summertime when guys take vacations, but you can starve in the winter.
You're first guy to get laid-off when things get slow.
These companies aren't as profitable as they used to be...so they're constantly shutting barns down and moving guys around and consolidating things.
And the boards don't move like they used to when the economy was good...so you could be stuck on the bottom for a long time.

If I were to hire-on to an LTL outfit, I'd go to Old Dominion, Conway, or UPS Freight.
Avoid FedEx like the plague...these guys will screw you 8 ways from Sunday if they get the chance.
    Been there, done that.

it doesn't matter what the truck looks like to me, as long as it is reliable. a good looking truck that breaks down sucks compared to estes clown trucks that are well maintained. especially when you are pulling in money like estes drivers.

This is one of the best posts I've ever seen regarding LTL or Parcel jobs.. It varies so much from terminal to terminal at the same company but it can really pay off in the end if you put your time in and keep a decent attitude understanding you don't get the best run, pay, or trucks two months after you start.
