I pulled $87,157 for 2010 running a 420 mile round-trip line-haul run at non-union Con-way Freight.. Anything over 500 miles here nightly has an easy 100K written all over it up North and UPS pays much better..
And again, UPS does not have recruiters and neither does Con-way Freight - maybe Truckload but not Freight..
Newbies, want to make $100K

Pretty simple and I'll do the math at Con-way Freight pay which is less than UPS/UPSF based off my run then our long run..
420 miles x .555 is $233.10 just to drive it (7 hours).. Drop/hook/fuel/dock is between 4 and 5 total hours so that's another $100-120 per night so we'll call it 340 per night in 12 hours which is very close but a little conservative since we push 13 hours nightly by choice.. 340 per night is 1700 per week which is around 88K - push your time out a little on that 420 mile run and you're knocking on the 100K door..
A long run like our 550 miler pays 305 just to drive it.. Play your 12 per night and you're good for 380 which is an easy 95K - since we can work 14/70 here now it's nothing to make $410-425 per night 5 nights per week.. 100K here can be made easily - I took about 10 nights off last year without pay on top of the 20 or so with pay and still was in the high 80's..
Since UPSF is at .60 per mile and 25 an hour right now, a 550 miler pays 330 to drive and goes from there..
Even at Con-way, 100K is easy to attain if you can hold a long run and stay after it.. At UPSF you can make 100K by accident..lol..Wargames, rodknocker and U4EA Thank this. -

That said, in an honest moment I now wish I had stayed on night line-haul here bidding one of our meet/turn runs.. Could have worked 6 to 10 hour nights just driving and swapping sets depending on which one I took.. Water under the bridge this year for me though.. It's nice doing the 8 and skate but I can already tell you with certainty that I'll be back on night line-haul next year. Just pisses me that I could have done a 6 hour night and the gate making the same money.. We do have a night meet/turn that is 6 hours too..haha..
It's not for everyone but I wish I had stayed on nights even though the money isn't a factor for me.. I'll probably take a long run next year to make the big money for the hell of it but I'll be using those meet/turns as my year off in the future.. Kinda booting myself in the #$$ right now - only 10 months left till I'm back out there with my peeps man..
In just 5 weeks I've learned I'll be on night night line-haul till I get the call for the big leagues - day line-haul.. It varies by year but I'm 9 drivers away from the bid now and should have it in the bag for my career within 7 or 8 more years..
A start time sounded nice but I need to be grinding gears and spilling coffee while cursing traffic at midnight down I95 man..Wargames Thanks this. -

It is very attainable running line-haul at an LTL company..
For those that are not picking up what we're putting down - this is 100K before taxes as a company driver.. Much the same as say a consultant employed by a defense company making $105K per year - not contractors making 100K before expenses.. Your W2's can reflect a 100K + in gross income while driving a truck for a living - this is serious money and if you play your cards you can really live an upper middle class life with cash if you so choose driving a truck.. It's not a bad direction to go if you ask me right..lupe, rodknocker and Wargames Thank this. -
