Thanks for the advice, good stuff. I've learned a lot already from browsing these forums.

1. Make sure you have flip flops

2. Don't get talked into leasing through the company.

3. Be safe, and don't be afraid to say no.

4. Logs are complicated.

Now's not a good time to have that kind of payment hanging over your head. There are some reasonable deals out there, but you have to approach it as a small business decision, and as a means to a goal. If you haven't written a business plan and incorporated the lease terms into it, you're insane to even think about it. After doing that, if the numbers look good, then lease. Make sure you get a copy of the lease before signing it, and have a business attorney look it over.

Actually, they're not all that complicated... you just have to know the rules. Don't get overawed by the subject, and don't get taken in by the companies that do "electronic logging." Some folks like it, I don't. The paper logbook is your friend.

One thing that I got lucky with is I never had to drive with a Trainer, I took the driving test needed(200 mile test with parking, backing drop and hooks, etc.), passed and been on my own ever since. But my tester had his crying baby in the truck! I guess he wanted to see how good my nerves were. LOL
I don't have any war stories about trainers..... LOL

I'm a ex trainer and I'll say this if you get a good trainer then you will be in a clean truck. most of them can teach you alot. but if you go to one of theses co. that let a driver that only has 1yr or less train you good luck! and as far as your time out 10 to 14 days out is good any less is great but otr means over the road not local. so if you want to be home every week good luck making any money! if your that shy that it makes you shiver sharing a truck with a trainer than stay home! don't get in a truck.
in trucking otr you give up a lot. faimly, friends,time to do stuff you want. but if you have a goal to drive for x amont of years. then get something local because every thing you have is payed off and you don't have to make as much money then put your fears behide you and make it happen!
and as far as whats in the truck lights a bed and every thing you need to make that truck go down the road every thing else is up to you! like cb,tv,ref. blankets pilow.

but if I can tell you one thing you need to keep in your mind it is this!
you can take a corner 1000 times to slow but only once to fast. GOOD LUCK!!!
