Seen a Univar truck sporting a new logo and it said "Univar Solutions" on the door. Light bulb went off and I said, I bet you they are merging with Nexeo Solutions. Shure enough Google confirmed it. So I was wondering if there are any changes happening on the logistics side for you drivers?
Nexeo and Univar merger.

Wasn’t really a merger, Univar straight up acquired Nexeo. Univar was always #1 in the US as far as chemical distribution companies go so now they just increased the lead over Brenntag although Brenntag is still #1 globally. Brenntag took a hit with the whole Syria thing but I’m sure that’ll blow over.
Haven’t heard of any big changes either way but I’m sure nexeo guys will be happy as Univar was the better company to work for anyways. There wasn’t necessarily anything wrong with nexeo but, Univar is just a good company to work for. Nexeo was always big into solvents so I’m sure that was a big reason Univar wanted them as they are huge on the corrosives side.speedyk Thanks this. -
Hey thanks for the info driver. I use to run loads of IPA and MEK next to and around all three of the mentioned chem producers. Without a doubt the Univar and Benntag drivers were the happiest and almost never lost a driver, the Nexeo guys were just a alot smaller of a group.
I would of went to one of the two majors but at the time I didn't have enough tanker experience. I went into fuel hauling and then cryogenic work instead. I would definitely consider Univar if things went south in the cryogenic field, but it's been great for the years I've been here.Dennixx Thanks this. -
I just got called up for an interview at Univar in two weeks. Wasn’t actively looking for another job but I’ve never seen them post an ad for a driver/warehouse in this area. Talked to a driver in CA a couple of years ago and I liked what he had to say. Figured I’d go in and see what it’s about. I’d love to have nights off if that’s on the table.
Weeble Kneeble, Dennixx, speedyk and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've only seen one posting like 4yrs ago for local tanker only position, here in socal. I didnt have enough experience at the time but they were willing to relocate me to San Jose. I had to pass did want to go from expensive to even worse when it comes to cost of living. I've talked to a driver on these forums, they go long stretches without hiring. Kinda like the UPS of tanker outfits. LolDennixx and Air Cooled Thank this.

Right on. I talked to one of the Redwood City drivers when I was at the Gilroy truck stop on my way to deliver in San Jose. Stupid expensive all around there. But he said some good things about the company. Mostly only saw tanks being pulled around in the Bay Area. I’ve actually never seen a univar truck up here in the NW but I work nights. I think this is more of a dry van p&d type thing. Shoot, either way id be up for it. Never bumped a dock in 8 years of driving though-always been in a tank. You seem to know your stuff about them. Nothing wrong with chasing the holy grail of company trucking outfits. I’m just so burnt out hauling fuel.
Weeble Kneeble and Cali kid Thank this. -
Funny
After the thread was posted went to the site to read on it and found the career page, seems they have a tanker opening here and a 5 grand sign on bonus.
Filled out a application.
Happy where I am but not adverse to leaving for better money/hours and equip/conditions.
Seems the only way to get accurate salary and benefits info. -
See them all the time here in the PNW, they have yards in Kent and Portland. I work for a competitor in the area, and all of us are hiring up here (Univar, Brenntag, Chemtrade, Northstar). Busier than I'd like to be, for sure, but I guess that's a good problem to have.

Yup like I always say I'd rather have to much work than not enough.Weeble Kneeble Thanks this.
