That said, I have an APU unit that runs every night. in my truck. Even if the temperature is fine, I fine that I need the white noise of my APU unit to help drown out the loud ### truck stops. Sometimes it's needed to drown out my OWN loud ### reefers! lol
So for me with an APU unit, unless my reefer is loud as hell (which sometimes it is), the noise of the reefer usually doesn't bother me because my APU is helping to act as white noise, drowning out my own reefer as well as the noise of the other trucks/brakes going off.
HOWEVER, I will say that the reefer sometimes will wake me up if it's on "Start-Stop" mode because it'll shake the cab when it starts back up. Therefore, unless the reefer unit is locked to where I can't change the Start-Stop setting (sometimes it is), then if that reefer is supposed to be running I'll put it on "Continuous Mode" when I go to bed so that the starting and stopping doesn't jolt me awake mid sleep. When the reefer's on Continuous Mode, I don't even really notice it's there.
I can't say how well I would sleep with reefers or truck stop noises if I didn't have my APU unit to drown out the noise of the truck stop.
Finally, if you get unlucky and have an obnoxiously LOUD reefer unit (which can happen), whether it's yours or the trailer parked next to you, it's annoying and harder to fall asleep even with an APU unit or any other device acting as white noise. That's just the way it is.
Sorry for my long answer, hope it helps.bryan21384 and shaker521 Thank this. -
Megas want to handhold like crazy. Trucks are chocked full of cattleprods, and you have a complete book of "company policies" to go along with the DOT handbook. Smaller companies don't operate like that. No tattletales, no cattleprods, no ridiculous company policies. And usually, you will be more regional. And best of all...smaller companies won't say a word about your truck gun(s).

J Rayl Transport is hiring dedicated drivers for an account with Georgia Pacific (it’s what I’m doing). It’s based out of our Sunnyvale, Texas yard, but we run a lot of loads out of the paper mill in Muskogee, and I know they’ve had at least one driver who lived up there, parked his truck at home for his weekends.
it’s a good outfit, and the regional dedicated pays pretty good, decent benefits, and I’m usually home Friday evening through Sunday afternoon.shaker521, Chinatown and Speed_Drums Thank this. -

@shaker521 I love reefers man, it makes for better sleep. Whether you're in Tulsa or Denver, both are good spots for Climate Express. We have good running lanes in both....if interested, PM me and I'll give you the full rundown
Chinatown Thanks this. -
To OP: since any potential employer will be looking at you with a fine tooth comb, do the same to them.
You can look at fleet size, safety, inspection OOS rates, etc at FMCSA's Safer Web website:
