This must be the one with the 3408? 5x4 or 6x4, retarder, beautiful truck! Makes me wish I had never sold my 83.

Straight Stacks, rank and G13Tomcat Thank this.

The white one has the V8. Not sure which has what but 2 have 5×4 and 1 has a 6x4.

Man, that white one is cherry. SOOOOOOO sweet. Makes my mouth literally water. The single rounds up front is what did it for me.

I made an assumption that the 3408 was the one that had the retarder, as I don't believe jakes were available on them, all beautiful trucks though!

That's right, you couldn't get Jakes on the 3408. They use the CAT Brakesaver, which is a hydraulic retarder that works off engine oil.

    rank and Oxbow Thank this.

Looks like a pretty nice yard where those trucks are parked too.

Does he own a repair shop..?

Yeah Ozdriver, I have two 3406Bs, both have retarders, and one has jakes as well. A lot of people don't like them, but I sure do.

    Ozdriver Thanks this.

I've had no problems with my Brakesaver except for a couple of easily fixed oil leaks, I think the secret is keep your eye on the temp and pressure gauges and don't let them run hot. Brakesaver + Jake would be awesome stopping power

I tried adjusting my pressure (max) up a bit - to 65 psi. - but blew a diaphragm, now I run it to about 55 psi max and have no problems. I turn the fan on going downhill on longer grades and don't have much problem with the oil temp, just keep an eye on it.
