I started driving for swift at the beginning of january. I quickly set my driving schedule. I got up at 6am, started my pretrip at 7 and was on th' road by 730am. My 14 was up at 9pm. I did this daily, or as close to it as i could. Swift didnt hav a problem with my hours.
I left swift and went to work for star transport in morton, il. I think the 2nd week in may. I told my trainer i couldnt drive at nyt. He said he didnt hav a problem with that....tht he liked driving at night.
This lasted about a week. Th' next thing i kno, we're back at th' terminal, and i'm gettin fired coz i cant drive at nyt.
I've heard from evrybody and their granny tht truckin is done at nyt. If tht's so, why th' hell is evry truckstop in th' country full by 9pm???
Anyone kno a company i can driv otr for tht wont hav a prob with my drivin hours???

You will have to ask around. Personally I love driving at night because that's when
My body and brain work best. Less traffic on the road and when the moon is out lots of visibilty. But often you have to drive days to get to your destinaion at the right time. Maybe you can find a local day gig but OTR does require driving at anytime on the clock. -
LOL i wont find a day gig with only 4 mos. exp. I tried nyt drivin. my trainer at Swift said I was up on th' wheel, eyers wide openh, and slowly fell sideways...
I drifted ovr 2 th' left into th' lane as anothr rig was bout 2 pass me. He quickly backed off I think, and honked as he passed after I woke up. Th' only thing I remembr was my trainer yellin "HEYHEYHEYHEY"!!!
My bodys natural clock tells me 2 get my tail to bed...I go to bed...usually bout 10pm or so...
Hell, maybe I'll give Driveaway another shot... -
can't believe they fired you,
sue em !!!!!!!!! -
I think you should have researched trucking a little more before you started. You are pretty much on the clock 24/7. What do you do if you have a delivery at 2am? I have been driving for over 15 years and have never had a regular schedule. Sure they are probably out there, but rare. If you land a dedicated route then you could be on the same schedule, though even at that it can still change. Personally, I would never announce to any employer that you don't drive at night. There are plenty of drivers in line that will.

night /day---the only difference is what colour your glasses are
although i have been known to use my daytime glasses at night---keeps those bright lights from keeping me awake while i drive -
Get a dedicated driving job with regular hours. Except with 2 jobs in such a short period that will be difficult.
Sounds like someone got the "Private Benjamin" recruiting treatment. "When you join the Army you'll have your own condo, access to the tennis courts, and you won't have to wake up early." -
# chompi....ur prolly ryt...i dont think i did research enuff....
# tscottme...they did tell me a couple times i could hav a pretty set driving schedule....so i dunno... <shrug> -
Being lied to is SOP in the trucking industry, particaularly OTR.
