It's been a couple decades since I pulled a box. We, however, team in a different manner.

was in St. Louis. Had to pick up a container going to estevan,sk...right across the border. Got loaded, was chaining down the load and noticed that one of my drive tires was flat. Another one of our trucks showed to grab the 2nd container. I went to the TA in Troy,Illinois and it took them 7 hours to get me in. They didn't have the tire fixed until 8 PM. I waited til midnight and took off. Ran up 61, to 380(that route), picked up 35 to the Twins, then 94 west. I called the receiver and told him that I would be in his area the following morning. He told me that he would have a crane waiting.
i was almost in Fargo when my dispatcher called me and told me that I needed to wait on the other truck. Why would I need to wait....he should be 10 hours ahead of me. She then tells me that he is still 900 miles out. Impossible! The whole trip was 1000 miles...what the heck did the guy do...run a hundred miles down the road and take a 34? I was pissed.
I didn't call the receiver back, I just went in. He unloaded me and asked about the 2nd truck. We were told that the 2nd truck was in South Dakota and still 450 miles out.
1000 mile run. Load Monday and by Wednesday, still be 450 miles out. Every time I hear a driver say he doesn't make any money Truckin, I wait. Within 5 minutes, they will tell you why they don't.

Was asked to head up a crane move, 18 loads. All drivers were given my number for the contact person.1000 mile run from ND to WV, start loading on Tuesday and had to deliver by Friday 5pm EST. no problem. The riggers were going to put the crane together over the weekend and have her running the following Monday....at least that was the plan. Lady driver shows up on Tuesday to get one of the two crawler track sections. They load her and secure the load and send her on her way before noon Tuesday. Thursday afternoon, she is still 500 miles out. Her dispatcher starts to panic and bug her about being able to deliver by Friday. She got pissed and decided to take a detour and see her grand kids. She didn't show til the following Monday.

For every diligent driver out there, there's a slacker. The difference between the higher end companies and the bottom feeders is the speed at which the higher companies will fire you. The mega carriers treat drivers like garbage because they have more garbage drivers. Garbage drivers run from 1 bottom feeder to another their entire career.

my current company is a big company. Thing is they have slackers and A Game drivers mixed together. All the A Game drivers know each other. You know something's up when you see all A Game players at a shipper. It would be like Wild Bill, Doc Holliday, Jesse James and Bat Masterson all being invited to the same party. "What are you doing here?" And all the gun fighters sit there wondering whether or not they're supposed to work together or shoot each other down. Usually, it's some new customer and the company sends out its best in the beginning. That customer looks at the level of professionalism and is wowed. After the first phase of the project is successfully underway, the company can now send in the slackers and boneheads.

I like when she goes for about a week but after that every little thing one of us does just annoys the crap out of the other, the already small cab of that truck gets even smaller, I guess by that point we're just tired and grumpy..

truckon and Giggles the Original Thank this.
