I know a guy who beat a red light camera ticket. He showed up to court and demanded that he be able to question the witness (camera) that caught him running a red light. Well, we all know that you can question a camera all you want but it will not be able to respond. The judge threw the ticket out because a defendant has the right to question his accuser.

Alabama has a mail questionnaire they mail out now about your insurance which would be a pain for someone on the road if they didn't get it. So many laws now days to keep ahead of and stay legal. We use Geico and I can take care of it on online and they are drafted out each month. It has an option where you can change and have it drafted out at a later date, ours is due on the 23rd and it will offset it to around the 1st of the month, great deal if you are running low on money some weeks. I reverts back to the original date then. The only thing is they started mailing out the insurance cards, I guess there must be a good reason for that who knows, but it would make it hard for a person to get the cards if you are on the road all the time. It is too bad that some of the bigger truckstops couldn't have a mail box service of some kind for truckers, esp if you go by them often enough to receive the mail. Just getting stamps sometimes is a challenge on the road.

I printed my geico proof of insurance out from email. They snail mailed it too, but if you can get access to a printer it can be done that way. Of course if you need it for your personal vehicle then most likely your already home. I printed mine out, because I changed state registration, and was leaving the next day, so printed it and put it in the car, that way family members could use it if needed.

I have had two red light violations in the last five years, my DMV is still clean. If all four/ten wheels are still in the intersection you fail. Florida has video and still pictures.

A few red light cameras in my hometown of Las Cruces, NM had to be removed when the NMDOT determined that they weren't convinced of their effectiveness and therefore no red light cameras were allowed on state maintained routes. Cameras that were on US70, NM28 and NM185 had to be removed.

El Paso has blatenly shortened the green light on it's red camera roads to increase revenue.

A gentleman in Albuquerque got his dismissed when he showed videotaped evidence that the intersection he recieved the fine at had a right turn arrow that coincided with the left turn arrows at the cross street and it came on consistently as there was always traffic making that left turn and the city had to concede that their red light camera's view of the rightmost traffic signal where the right arrow was located was obscured and didn't show that the arrow wasn't on at the time of the violation.

Michigan has drivers responsibility law but I think you need to be caught driving without the insurance before it can be enforced. It's kind of a joke in Michigan but the real reason it exists is that it gathers a ton of revenue for the state. Why pay insurance for a car that you're not driving on the road. I think some insurance carriers will offer the option to go to storage for instance while you are out in the truck for an extended period.

If I recall I think you need a physical address to maintain a CDL. A PO Box won't work either. Use a family members house. Have your mail sent there and change the address on your CDL.

in NY, you would have a better time running over a dozen nuns than to have your insurance lapse (thanks to our friends in the insurance lobby)

i would check on your state, not hearsay
