It sounds like sysco is the way to go out of all of them. How does the pay work for them? Is it just straight hourly, then time and a half for OT? Or do they add extra pay for for boxes moved? Thanks for all your expertise and help for a newbie!

we have the choice of getting paid hourly or by an incentive program--cases. miles.stops. the choice is yours. i personally like the incentive way. ot after 8.

For someone just coming in would it pay more to go the incentive way over hrly? I'm willing to work hard, but also don't want to keel over dead either. lol. If you choose the incentive program you still get the hourly ot rate after 8? What days of the week do you run? It sounds like you have been there a while so it can't be all that bad, it sounds like you certainly can't beat the pay.

thanks sysco294! Did you start with Sysco right out of the gate, or otr? At this point i'm wondering about the training aspect of things. Looking at the training that some of these mega otr carriers give you, (some are telling me 3 months with a driver trainer) i'm wondering how a local like Sysco would handle training for someone out of school. I'd be worried if I was thrown the keys and it's a "there you go and if there's any incidents you're out of here" kind of deal. How's the training in your opinion for someone out of school, and do you think I should wait until after i get my CDL in my hand to walk in there to apply, or just go in now while I'm still in class?

hey longtrail-- your welcome. sysco will not throw you out to the wolves. you wlii train with one guy for a couple of weeks. first day you will hardly do anything, last day you will do the day by yourself. we have plenty of guys that came right out of school. i'd wait till you have your license. also, try to have your doubles and haz mat endorsement.

    longtrail34 Thanks this.

sounds good. how's the road test they give you? wow, the doubles i could get pretty quick, I'm wondering about hazmat if it's a lengthy process though. How do you work out some days where you need to get things done at home if a lot of days are 12-14 hr days? Can you request a less hr day if need be, or it is what it is? oh, and i just remembered, are the trucks manual or auto shift?

ok here we go. road test is easy. most trucks are auto, but we do have 8 and 9 speeds. its very hard to get things done during the week. obviously they will gve you the day off if you have an app't. m-f is sysco. not to sound corny but i see the guys more then the family during the week. we work, go home and shower and eat, chill for a while, sleep and do it again.
